Who’s Who at Clines?

by | Mar 20, 2017 | News

Hey everyone,

My name is James. I have been working here at the shop for about a year now and have just been appointed the blog man by Les. I have never written a blog in my life but I guess as they say ‘there’s no time like the present’ so bear with me while I try learn to keep a blog interesting so you guys actually want to read what I’m blabbering on about. I’ll try to keep the posts as interesting, honest and informative as possible without sounding like I just copied and pasted the specs of a shoe or board from the Internet.

So working in a skate shop is awesome but It’s really not as relaxed as you would think.

Whenever I walked into a skate shop I always thought to myself that it would be so good to just play with skateboards and read skate mags all day but I was so wrong, I think I’ve read about 2 magazines in the whole 6 months I’ve worked here. Between general housekeeping, serving customers and keeping the online store up to date (which is a massive job with about 3000 products!), it’s pretty full on from the moment we open the doors.

So now I’m just going to write a little about everyone that works here keeping it brief.

James

So I thought I would start with myself.

As you know my name is James.  I’ve just finished graphic design at uni. I have a little 18 month old son at home named Brooklyn.  He’s a little champion and it’s never boring at home now.

I love skateboarding (it kinda comes with the job) and I’m always skating at parks around the coast so if you see me come say Hi!

I take care of all things online here at the shop and obviously know pretty much everything there’s need to know about street/old school skateboards.  I also love shoes!  If you’re after anything to do with longboarding or downhill, I will help you the best I can.  I’ve learned a lot in the past year but Grommy and Jack are still the gurus of longboarding.

Les

Les is the captain of the ship here at the shop as most of you probably know.

He’s probably the best boss I’ve ever had (I feel like I have to say that) but in all seriousness he’s pretty chilled and up for a chat.

I’ve shopped with Les ever since he opened the old shop.  He’s always helped out with product knowledge and always had the latest and best stock.  That’s including all types of skateboarding which is pretty hard to find in a skate shop these days. It’s normally one or the other type of skateboards (i.e. skateboards or longboards) but not both.

Mel

Mel is the captainess I guess you could call her being Les’ wife and all.

Mel is always good to work with except for the occasional times that she speaks to me in French and have no idea what she just said until she realises what she’s done.

Like Les she is always down for a chat especially if your French Canadian.

Jono

Jono like Mel is another French Canadian so you could only imagine what it’s like working with those two at the same time (pretty sure I need to learn French).

He has a pretty wide knowledge of skateboarding in general and when he’s not working at the shop, he is a massage therapist (and teaching at TAFE).  He’s also pretty good with tools so does all the handyman jobs around here.

Zane aka Grommy

Where to start with young Grommy… He is quite the character but besides his obsession with Stance socks (31 pairs as of this post) and his need to tell everyone about it as soon as someone glances at the Stance rack here in the store, he’s kinda normal.

He’s our longboard specialist here at the shop and he reckons he’s pretty good at it. I’ll give him a little credit he does compete regularly and does well in most races. Despite his young age he knows a lot about the longboards and downhill side of things having tested all types of products we sell.

Jack

Lastly there’s Jack. I haven’t really had the opportunity to work with Jack that much because we are hardly ever on at the same time. What I do know is that he also, like Grommy, is into downhill skateboarding and I know he is a very good runner and overall a pretty cool dude.

So, that’s everyone that works here at the shop and hope this blog helps you feel more comfortable walking into the shop now that you have read this and I hope to see you soon!!!

P.S. Keep checking back for regular product reviews and other news.
